- Bertha Alice Pendergrass, 98, Springfield, died Sunday, at 10:59 p.m. after a long illness. She was born on June 2, 1910, in Kensley, Kansas to James and Liddie Rogers. She was one of nine children. She was united in marriage to Fred Pendergrass and to that union there were three children born; Stanley, Betty and Margaret. After losing her husband in a tragic accident, at age 26, she raised her three children as a single parent. Her focus was always on her family, she loved each one of us deeply and she brought great joy to our lives that we will never forget. Her strong faith in God took her through many tragedies and heartaches while always keeping her joy and love for life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred; two children, Stanley E. Pendergrass and Margaret Bagley, and two granddaughters, Vanessa Lee and Karen Womack, and seven siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Pfeifer and husband Ed, a sister, Dorothy Bass, all of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hopedale Cemetery, near Ozark. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Everyone that met Bertha fell in love with her. We would like to express our deep gratitude to Good Shepard Hospice and Integrity Home Health Care, for their compassionate and loving care.
